Newspaper Delivery Jobs

In this economy finding a job in your chosen field can be tough. Many people have to turn to employment opportunities they may not have normally considered. Newspaper delivery jobs can be that perfect opportunity.

For starters, paper delivery jobs typically have very accommodating hours. You are normally delivering papers starting at 4 to 5 am in the morning, so this leaves the rest of the day to do what you want. These early hours allow you to continue with a job search later in the day (if you want to find another job) or go to work at another full time or part time job. The early hours also make it an excellent opportunity for a stay at home parent who just wants to earn a little extra money before seeing their kids off to school.

In paper delivery jobs you are almost always working alone. Some people love this type of work environment. The only time you might see a co-worker is when you pick the papers from your Area Supervisor at the beginning of your shift. Other than that little bit of human contact you will have some peace and quiet for the rest of your shift. You can relax, listen to some good music in your car, and deliver some newspapers.

There are also some career growth opportunities with newspaper carrier jobs. The delivery position is the lowest level in the organization, but you can work your way up eventually to an area supervisor/district manager or even higher. The district manager or area supervisor is the person that picks up the papers from the printing plant and then distributes them to the drivers in the morning to get delivered.

Some other jobs to be considered with newspaper delivery jobs are other types of delivery positions that pertain to delivering papers. Typically you need some experience for this next position I will explain, but newspapers also hire drivers to fulfill vendor paper needs and to fill those newspaper boxes you see all around your town.

Another position to be considered is that of an independent contractor delivering papers to outlying community areas. Typically papers will hire contractors to deliver to these outlying communities as contractors rather than direct employees. Essentially a contractor is doing the same thing as the paper delivery driver employed directly through the newspaper, but the contractor probably has a closer relationship with the accounts they are delivering to as they are the contractors accounts rather than the papers accounts. This also means that the contractor has to act as a customer service person, as well, in cases of billing or non-delivery issues.

Applying for a paper delivery job is a great place to start if the early mornings and the solidarity of working on your own are appealing to you. You can start by contacting, customer service, the circulation department, or human resources. Depending on the paper, the department will vary which you need to contact. You can also try online or the paper specific advertisements/classifieds to find delivery jobs.
