Taking Action To Get Business Leadership Skills Fast

While some people have chosen to lead only themselves, it goes without saying that the same traits and mindsets these people use to lead themselves are very similar to applying one’s leadership beliefs to other people. For those who are still quite unsure of what to look for in acquiring business leadership skills, here are some traits that characterize your typical leader.

The leader is a planner.

A leader is a natural born planner. Most people who lead others have a natural and innate capacity to foresee problems and make contingency plans for any issues that might arise. Even if plans may not turn out according to the desired result, a good project manager can create an alternative that is still congruent to the group’s goals.

The leader is a visionary.

A leader provides the guiding path or goals for the rest of the group to focus on. With a clear goal in mind, the team’s energies are not dissipated uselessly which can yield minimal gain with maximum effort. A vision is also closely associated to the plan, but the plan is the ‘how,’ while the vision is the goal.

The leader knows how to influence others; in a good way.

The leader is naturally persuasive. This person should be able to make people understand their sentiments in order to make them see the correct path, whether it be their idea or not! Possessing this skill does not necessarily mean that everything should be done according to exactly how the leader wants it. Being able to influence would also include the ability to empathize and listen to the issues that some of your Team members may be having. Teamwork is beneficial because as the saying goes, ‘two minds are better than one’! Different minds lead to different ideas. It is a learned leadership skill to keep the peace and choose the best path for the entire team to follow.

Friends With Benefits: A Social Media Marketing Handbook by Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo

Social media has exploded in the last few years with millions of people using the various sources to connect with each other. Obviously, with that many people using the different ways to reconnect and connect with one another, businesses have looked to social media as a method to market products and services. “Friends With Benefits: A Social Media Marketing Handbook” by Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo is an exceptional guide to assist with the online marketing game. This book provides tips, tricks and real-world case studies that show how you can use social media to increase your company’s online visibility and Web traffic and win over online influencers. Regardless if you are familiar with social media or just beginning to enter the waters of this daunting ocean of sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Digg, MySpace, Flicker, and all the others, this book will guide you through the waters and help you steer a course to effective online social media marketing.

The book begins with a short introduction that explains a bit about the book and who it is for. It then goes into chapter one which describes just what social media is. This is a great introduction regarding the explosion of sites now called social media and how the communities formed. Chapter two delves into RSS feeds and readers, Blogs, and how to get ready for social media.

Next, in chapter three, the authors provide a lot more information about blogging and interacting with blogs that others write. The fourth chapter focuses on netiquette, or as the others say, Miss Manners for the Web. I thought this was a very important chapter, because if you don’t follow the acceptable rules of social behavior on the Internet, your efforts at marketing will surely fail.

The Power of Positive in a Recession

I know, I know. It’s not officially a recession. But it sure feels like it when the stock market graphs look like my latest EKG.

In times like these I remember when I was a little girl and my mother took me to Manhattan’s Marble Collegiate Church to hear the Reverend Norman Vincent Peale talk about The Power of Positive Thinking.

He was amazing but I hadn’t thought of him in years, not until we all began to feel the pinch of a terrible economy.

Small business owners, like me, blanch at the word Recession. Some of us panic. Some cut prices, cut staff. Thanks to Reverend Peale, I prefer to think about positive approaches. I start by remembering that we have a choice:

1.We can pack up our tents and go home, or

2. We can try something new.

We always pick #2.

1. I’m making myself accountable first, accountable myself to work on my next book, be more creative (in all elements of their business) for our clients and learn new things.

2. As soon as I find myself working on a new creative program, I start having fun. For some odd reason, I think about Tom Dixon, the Blendtec CEO whose “Will it blend?” videos usually go viral. In this one, he purees an iPad and it’s had over 12 millions views.
Great storytelling and that’s always made for effective marketing.

3. Your network can be golden for you. If you’re on LinkedIn, keep in touch with people you’ve worked with in the past, former clients, friends, relatives and people in your groups. I reach out to several people every day to see if I can be a resource for them. I help people find new posit/ions, mention them in a post, or ask about their families. Networking is easy on Facebook and Twitter, too. It helps if you remember this: Don’t just ask for something, offer something.

Choose The Right Office Space Provider With These 5 Points

If you are looking at the market with the aim of investing in office space rental for reasons of business, there are many excellent points worth knowing about this that will put you in a wonderful position when it comes to selecting a potential company, or perhaps merely expanding your knowledge relating to this.

I have listed below five of the most significant and useful facts to know when searching for a first class, reliable office space agent. There are without a doubt some more points worthy of consideration but those discussed below in my view are the most essential.

1. One important reason office space rental has become more and more popular is partly thanks to the superb selection of businesses specialising in top-end quality, superb value space. The more reliable companies will additionally offer first class technical backup and excellent pre-purchase advice.

2. With the many more advanced websites currently available that are easily accessible to the keen customer, the rental experience is truly made more streamlined. Detailed descriptions, images and video all help us gain a greatly improved understanding of the rental sector prior to any rental.

3. Some companies include testimonials and recommendations on their websites and printed material relating to satisfied clients. Never underestimate their importance, especially if copies of original testimonial letters may be made available should you wish to see them.

4. If you have at one time or another wanted to communicate with a potential office providers or agents just before a purchase, what was the company representative like you dealt with? A nice helpful company individual who went out of their way to answer your questions is a very good sign for any post-purchase communication that you might require. An organization who apparently don’t seem to care in the slightest might be worth giving a wide birth.

Social Networking for Business: Choosing the Right Tools and Resources to Fit Your Needs

I just finished “Social Networking for Business” and if you are looking for a book to teach how to use Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, and related sites to market your products and services because you have heard that social network marking is the way to go, this is not the book for you. This book does not show you how to use these kinds of sites for marketing. If this is the information you need, you need to look elsewhere. One reference you might find useful is “Friends With Benefits: A Social Media Marketing Handbook” by Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo.

“Social Networking for Business: Choosing the Right Tools and Resources to Fit Your Needs” by Rawn Shah is a book for businesses or organizations that are looking to make an on-line community to play a role in their business. An example would be Amazon’s reviewing community. This book does not discuss writing reviews, but rather what kind of community would benefit different kinds of businesses and organizations.

This book is much more theory than practical steps. It shows a business how to look at trends, define the social experience it wants to provide to the community it creates, the different human factors involved when building a culture and deeper collaborative relationships, different kinds of leadership for the various communities, and what is needed to manage and measure the collaborative project.

The book is quite technical, and again, a lot of theory, and as such, it is a bit dry. I found that it had no practical applications for my smaller businesses. However, I did find the book interesting in an academic way. It was good to learn about the various social environments and how they can be used by businesses. With that said, this book really was not written for me and other small business owners looking to market with Social Networking. That’s what I thought it was going to be with the title. I was wrong. It is more about creating social networking platforms within your business. And even then, it discusses the social and community aspects, not the nuts and bolts and technical aspects of doing this.

Internet Marketers – Attitude Trumps Potential – Attitude 101 by John Maxwell

John Maxwell is a prolific expert when it comes to leadership. Attitude 101 is part of his 101 series dedicated to giving concise treatment of the subject. He uses clear text, broken down into bite size chapters that are easily digested by the reader.

Why? Many internet marketers skip over any portions of their training program that begins with ‘touchy feeling’ perceived nonsense about motivation and leadership. They just want to get down to the brass tacks of building their business. When you ignore this information and leave it out of your business plan, you are building your internet business foundation on shaky ground.

Maxwell understands this omission. Which is why he wisely begins his Attitude 101 with a core discussion about why attitude is so important and how attitude affects outcomes of individuals, particularly leaders every day. No matter how talented you may be, without proper attitude and attitude adjustments that require regular attention, you can never fully realize success.

Maxwell refers to an earlier tome, The Winning Attitude, to get his point across: Attitude ‘is our best friend or worst enemy…It is a thing that draws people to us or repels them… It is the speaker of our present. It is the prophet of our future.”

These basic premises have a place in everyday lives but should be in the forefront of the brains of entrepreneurs who work as internet marketers. We are often alone, sitting in front of our computers, trying to connect to others through technology. It is easy for negativity to take hold in that kind of environment.

If you need to work on your ‘negativity demons,’ there are things you can do. Recognizing that you are not working from the inner strength of a positive attitude is the place to start.
